I think you are right, sometimes with these cameras they can capture a split second and it does not tell the entire story.

In the lead photo, to me it looks more like Sharon is gesturing, as if to say, 'Please have a seat,' or 'Let me show you around', not extending for a handshake, which would be at a different angle.
(BTW, Galahad, I'm a fellow Wodehouse fan.)
