[history]
In the latest example of art imitating life, a group of high school students has created a musical based on Winona Ryder's shoplifting trial.
Point Loma High School's Sticky Fingers: A Tale of Saks, Lies and Videotape satirizes the trial last fall in which the Oscar-nominated actress was convicted of taking about $6,000 worth of items from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

This is absolutely terrible......taking advantage of another person's misfortunes. It's obvious that these students are careless and disregard what is certainly a deep rooted psychological disorder on Ms. Ryder's part.
They are taking advantage of an unfortunate phase of life, which Ms. Ryder, through no fault of her own, has taken a turn.
I am somewhat saddened that this school would allow such behavior. Winona Ryder should be a Role Model to these young people; instead...they have chosen to denigrate and foul her innocence.
Because of this....I want about three dozen tickets....so some of my fellow Freepers can decide for themselves.

Is this what they do with our tax $$$$$?
You know, it seems more and more all I read/hear in The Arizona Republic, is how the kids are going to assemblies, field trips, etc. Very rarely do I hear about academics.

call me a grinch but schools should stick to the three R's and not a dime elsewhere. What? The kids will become maladjusted to the rest of society because they didn't get any sex ed or got $$$ to put on a play? If they want to act silly, they should go for it but NOT on a school's limited funds.

Wynona Ryder has shown no remorse at all for her criminal actions, but seems to think it is very funny.

Got to disagree loudly. When I was a kid, we had music class, and kids who would never be exposed to classical, Broadway, folk, etc., learned about all kinds of music. Today, I still remember many of those songs, and I have a huge record collection that encompasses every type of music.
Then they did away with music classes, and look at what it has done to popular culture. The popular "music" today is absolutely awful because kids don't know the first thing about music. They think that two droning chords is a "song," a string of four letter words is a "lyric," and some moron chanting on the same repetitious beat for hours on end, or ululating and overemoting every chiched syllable of a tuneless hip-hop ballad, is "singing."
Whenever my fellow conservatives complain about the cellpool that is popular culture, whether it's gangsta rap or shock jock radio, I point out to them that they supported cutting music classes from schools and letting Clear Channel buy up all the radio stations, so shut up and quit complaining. You reap what you sow.

you are of course assuming works of value will be showcased to the students. Trust me. Public school plays are unlikely put on anything other than the public sewer one can see on TV. Once again, no extraneous school plays means there's less chance of liberal hijinks and indoctrination.

Public school plays are unlikely put on anything other than the public sewer one can see on TV. I disagree. Seems to me that our drama club had a pretty good run of some high-profile plays when I was in high school (I was not personally part of the drama club):
- Grease
- Butterflies are Free
- The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-moon Marigolds
- Our Town
And some other stuff I don't recall (this was 13 years ago, after all).

There is something about this story that stands out for those in the know. The name of the drama teacher that directs this play is Larry Zeiger. He also has a role in the play as CNN talk show host Larry King.
CNN talk show host Larry King's real name is...Larry Zeiger.
