Uh huh. So only the European heads of state get to vote for the EU President. And candidates can only be current or former European heads of state. So Guillame Sixpack has no say whatsoever as to who's EU President, and you can't have someone from outside the system run for EU President. Automatically disqualified if you weren't or aren't currently a European head of state.
Question, though. What happens if most of the current heads of state run for EU President? Don't you thin out an already thin voting pool while providing an overabundance of candidates? On the bright side, I can see the Saturday Night Live skits, now. Every single European head of state runs for EU President, with each getting exactly 1 vote. :D

Definitely an end to democracy by the voting public. Scary.

Tony Blair is high among the few names that always crop up when EU insiders get around to speculating on the first Euro-president. The Prime Minister seems tailor-made for much of the profile, but he suffers from one big handicap Britain's selfexclusion from the euro.Britain's self-exclusion from the Euro is not a handicap. On the contrary, it is a smart move.
However, it is still very sad to see Mr. Blair selling out Great Britain's sovereignty to the EuroWeasels.

Is Romania in the EU yet? That woman president there bears watching.

There have been suggestions that Blair's excessive willingness to conciliate France, Germany and Russia about Iraqi reconstruction -- contracts, UN participation, and so on -- was motivated by his desire to pre-position himself for the EuroPresidency. I find these suggestions credible. Blair is, first and foremost, a politician, and a socialist at that. He's never been against the EU's centralized statist bureaucracy in principle.
