My Leo is a hero

I know alot of people have no room in their heart for Police Officer's and in a strange way, I understand that sometimes but before anyone makes a final judgement on all police officer's, please allow me to tell you my side of this debate.

I have been married to a police officer for twelve years....some good and some bad. He has seen some of the most tragic and de-humanizing sides of people and he has seen the best as well. He is the kind of police officer to stop at the house of a lonely elderly man who just lost his wife. He is the kind of police officer who will take the time to fix the mailbox for a family who can't afford to get it fixed for themselves....of course, he does this on his own time and with his own money.

He is the kind of police officer who cried at the drowning of a two year old little girl. This happened while I was pregnant with our son and to this day, he refuses to get a swimming pool. He is the kind of police officer who will drive a man to a hospital where his wife is fighting for her life and it doesn't matter how long it takes or how long he has to wait.

He is an excellent father to his son, he is an excellent husband to me and there isn't anything he wouldn't do for his entire family. His father is disabled and whenever he needs my hero, he is there.

My husband has been called just about every bad word you could think of......his patience has been put to the test.....and yet, he has this quality about him of never letting his anger get the best of him. His ability to stay in control in some of the worst circumstances is mind blowing and the respect he has of his junior officers is well known.

Am I biased? You damn right I am....police officer's don't get good quality press time. In fact, the only time cops get press time is when something has gone wrong. The press isn't interested in the truth about police officers....it's better stories for them! Al Sharpton and his cronies are the first to appear in front of a camera when a black person is killed at the hands of police officers and they aren't interested in the whole truth. It doesn't matter to them! Look at Tawana Brawley, this happened in my own back yard and the lives he ruined are just casualties in his quest for top black leader!

So, when you accuse all cops of being looters, murderers and whatever else you can come up with, please have the common courtesy of knowing all of the facts before you make final judgements. That is my hero you are talking about!!!

Curious, do you ever want a middle ground agreement on this issue? You call people dopers, they call you a jackboot thug, it gets stale after a while.

One of life's great irony's is that there are some narcotics agents that are hooked on drugs, and some legalization activists who don't use drugs. Go figure.

The name calling is getting boring. My brother in law is a police officer and I respect what he does. For his sake, and our sake, I hope he gets to focus more on keeping the peace, as opposed to being encouraged to try to bust some hippies because the proceeds from the seizure of their house will buy new toys for the department.

If your first reaction when you need help is to call a cop, you are indeed in big trouble.

You sir are blind! If I said that there are NO such things as good teachers, then I would sound as pathetic as you and your teacher friend do.

I write software. You'll have a hard time with my superior attitude because it is deserved, and I don't rattle around like Roscoe licking the jackboots of narcs that batter down the wrong doors with disturbing regularity, so my attitude only has a negative effect on my direct reports that don't perform, and they get paid well to take it.

How about offering even one word for police reform, eh? You really don't think policing sucks? Go look for yourself. All my numbers are accurate. San Franciso is even worse - much worse on murder and other violent crime. Start with teh FBI UCR crime solution rates. Ask hubby why the people who pay so dearly for his PDs budget get only that level of performance. See if you like the answer.

Well, at least while they're spewing here on FR they're not out cursing a police officer for pulling them over for a DUI violation.

I've got two sons who are Dallas police officers.

Sink, I was on DPD up until 1994. I don't know whether I would have run into them during that time. I'll keep your sons in my prayers. Tell them to hang in there with the current administration - I gotta believe things will get better.

I didn't say there are no good cops. But they are the exception, like good teachers in public schools. In small towns there are some good schools and some good PDs. In many big city PDs, good cops are very rare because the whole PD is rotten. Tell me how a good cop could continue to work in San Francisco or Detroit or half a dozen other urban bannana republics. The schools, the PD - everything - in these cities is run at third world standards. And these are the places you will hear the most DARE propaganda and anti-drug sloganeering.

Oh I see....you sit behind a desk kissing your own a$$! You sound more and more like a democratic presidential candidate every time you post an opinion!

When you and your teacher friend can reform the public school system, then get back to me about police reform. Frankly, I am more afraid of stupid kids than your made up lies about police officers.

Ever heard the term, "Dial 911 and die"? Actually I think it was a book. If you are in trouble, the last thing you want to worry about is how long it is going to take for the police to get there. You will acknowledge that most crimes are over before the police get there right?

As to the American flag, I love it, and the country it represents. What on earth does that have to do with your thread?
