This is a good article, from a person obviously right at the heart of the Jayson Blair scandal. You have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the LA Times homepage to find it, and you have to be registered to read it.
If you are interested in this story the effort is worth it. It's really good behind the scenes stuff on this situation. It's alll making me wonder if Jayson Blair has a family, or any good friends who really care about him. He is just digging himself in deeper and deeper, and seems like he's a man in full blown crack-up mode. That's not anything to laugh at, for anyone. I hope this guy gets some help. His employer certainly failed to help him, in any way.

I hardly looked at the New York Times because I didn't want to see the bylines of my three fellow interns Edward Wong, Winnie Hu and Jayson Blair When you add in the admitted Hispanic, Hernandez, you see the problem right there. Once selected, unethical minorities are hard to dismiss. Hernandez seems ethical, and I wish him well.

I'm sure this is a very interesting article.
I'd love to read it, but I am NOT registering personal information with the LA Slimes nor allowing more than 20 of their cookies to be placed on my system.
Can someone FReepmail/e-mail it to me? Thanks.

I hardly looked at the New York Times because I didn't want to see the bylines of my three fellow interns ? Edward Wong, Winnie Hu and Jayson Blair ? When you add in the admitted Hispanic, Hernandez, you see the problem right there. Once selected, unethical minorities are hard to dismiss. Hernandez seems ethical, and I wish him well. First, "Macarena" Hernandez is a young lady - not a him. Was that a Freudian slip?
Second, I suspect that the "internship" is limited to "minorities", which is the NY Times' right to do.
That said, and in spite of unethical minorities being hard to dismiss, the NY Times failed miserably here and have done all of their "ethical minorities" great harm by not taking the difficult path of getting rid of Blair.
And, fortunately, the NY Times will pay for this for a good long time. Their reputation has been harmed greatly.
