Some of the answers to your questions and concerns are in the court documents RB posted. For example, if memory serves, the documents say the cops heard 18 seconds of a call from McAllister to Scott. They heard a few seconds initially, at a time when the listener didn't recognize McAllister's voice or the number he called from, and then the cop did "spot checks" of 6 seconds each later on during the call, to see if Scott was still on the phone. Later the cop told the supervising judge about the spot checks, and the judge told him, "no more spot checks." The spot checks are authorized by the statute, but since the judge told him not to do them, he didn't do that again.
As for telling by the phone number who was calling Scott, they did not at first know all the numbers connected with McAllister, according to the documents. In the court documents, they explain in detail about these things, and also cite some of the laws they had to follow concerning wiretapping. There's a lot of stuff there.

Good explanation Dev!! Can you believe ALL THIS CRAP that Geragos is throwing out? First he can PROVE WHO did it, then that seems to fall by the wayside, now were into Satanic cults, Scott with other girlfriends, blah blah blah. imo Geragos locked himself in with his grandiose statement of "setting the bar really high because he could prove WHO did it"!! What a load.

Thank you for clearing that up.
Now that makes a sense and MG is hard pressed if he tries to get SP off on that issue.
