May 24, 2003 -- The New York Times has suspended Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Bragg - sending new shock waves through a newsroom already reeling from the Jayson Blair scandal, sources told The Post. The action came yesterday - the same day the paper ran an "editor's note" regarding a front-page story on the lives of Florida oystermen that ran last June 15 with an Apalachicola, Fla., dateline under Bragg's byline. The Times said a reader questioned where the reporting took place, prompting it to review the material.

Perhaps being black at the Times is not (yet) a requirement, although it may be preferred; but being gay appears to be absolutely necessary for employment there at this point. The winning exacta is obviously black and gay; but not as good as the trifecta of black, female and homosexual.
