Schwarzkopf denigrated special forces as "snake eaters." That's a position I don't understand. It reminds me of the treatment that snipers got from the Civil War through Vietnam. Both Special Forces and snipers train harder than practically all the rest of the military, and are assigned the most dangerous missions and important tasks. These are people that should be held in the highest regard as some of the greatest, if not THE greatest, of American heroes. Besides, each one of them knows how to kill you with their fingernail clippings, so you'd BETTER treat them right.

That's not an insult, that's what SpecOps people call themselves. It came from having to cook and eat a snake during jungle training back in the old days. It's also why a bottle of Tabasco sauce was always in the packing list for the rucksack. PS MRE's haven't gotten any better, they're just more edible now because each accessory pack has a tiny little bottle of Tabasco.
