If you trace his ancestry, and it is available online here (and others I'm sure):
http://www.dcs.hull.ac.uk/public/genealogy/presidents/

His ancestry moves south and east, and ends up in SC and NC, and I think perhaps MS if I remember right. One line ends with an Irish immigrant (the MS connection I think).
I didn't see anything which seemed to be an American Indian connection. Presidential ancestry is well documented, and I don't think it'd be too difficult to find out the truth. He may just be spouting what he was told, although someone in his position should find out if something like that is true before publically proclaiming it.
