Why would anyone want to kill these sweet, intelligent creatures in the first place ? Murderers.

No, murder is the unlawful taking of a human life. Unless you are one of those warped odd sorts who values animal life above that of other humans, often from racial or other classes you might consider *inferior* in some way, comparing even the most wanton slaughter of elephants by rogues and savages of the human variety makes an inappropriate and inaccurate parallel.

They're far more beautiful than the average cattle or swine for slaughter, at least to those of us less accustomed to them when on their native ground, and if fiercer than most of the domestic beasts on this continent, note that the longhorn steer and razorback hog can put on a pretty good show on their home territory, as can the polar bear.

But if the killing of elephant were truly murder, than it'd be legal for all who come in contact with Ollie poachers to treat them as outlaws and harvest them on the spot. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Anyway, when the poachers take the ivory and leave the rest to rot, it at least feeds the vultures and hyenas, and sometimes, a big cat or two, also scavengers if less commonly thought to be so. But then, they'll just as happily feast on the poachers.
