THEN you can tell me that the war was "unnecessary." I'll happily tell you it was unnecessary since the man who waged it, Abe Lincoln, adamantly denied on many occassions that slavery had anything to do with his purposes in that war. That slavery was abolished was a political consequence of the war that Lincoln undertook during that war in order to gain its political benefits. It was never a purpose of waging the war though.
