There are lots of folks out there who have paid their "dues", who have believed that hard work will pay off, and due to situations (industry downturns, industry realignments, etc.) the pay off just isn't there.

In a free market globalized economy "hard work"/labor is just a commodity to be priced as cheap as possible.
