Wow! Thanks for the great thread!

I have one thing to add. Alabama has a Frank Lloyd Wright home, located in Florence, the only one in Alabama.

Hey,
We live in the great little city of Huntsville, Alabama. It is known as Rocket City or Space City, USA. Did you know that our neighboring city of Decatur had the first wave pool in the country? It is a fun place to take the kids. And, of course the Alabama Space and Rocket Museum is here in HSV. What a neat place to go with the whole family. This area is known as the "Valley of Illness" which is what the early Indians called it. That is because we live in a valley which keeps the allergy pollens down here. We have lived here since 1966 and would not want to live anywhere else.

Mrs. Fierro & I are diet pop (NOT "soda") connoisseurs.

Ugh. The correct term is "coke" (small 'c').

I took the liberty of pinging the Alabama FReepers. I thought it might spice up the thread a bit....not to mention getting it back on topic.

Have we strayed off topic? LOL.

Seriously, that was a good idea, I'm glad you did ping our Alabamians. I thought about it a couple times, but have been so busy trying to keep up with the thread in betweeen running errands, I haven't had time. I guess it would be nice to ping the residents of the state we are featuring. :-)

"I guess it would be nice to ping the residents of the state we are featuring"

I thought so. They could do much to enrich these threads when you do them on a state.

the Freedom Flame traveling 9/11 display will be in Modesto today at noon and will then travel to Fresno this afternoon.

Thanks for the link and information on this. I hadn't heard anything about it, and I almost missed this post too.

Alabama is home to Nascar's Talladega as well as to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.

Thanks, sweetliberty, so many interesting facts about Alabama. I am learning along with the everyone else. One of the big things I learned today is that there are TWO important Alabama University football teams. I should have mentioned the Auburn Tigers in the post, but I didn't know about them. I won't make that mistake on the next state. I'll also make sure everyone gets pinged. LOL.
