CARSON CITY, Mich. - Some cows really get moo-ving in the presence of Pete Ondrus and Barb Lambert.
The married couple used to own about 500 cows at their Carson City dairy farm. Now they have just three, all of which are used for racing instead of milking.
"Everybody does it with horses," Ondrus told The (Greenville) Daily News for a Wednesday story. "Our thing is that we can draw a crowd."
The couple race cows during appearances at parades, fairs and ballparks throughout the Midwest and the United States.
"We do this to promote agriculture," Lambert said.
She and Ondrus, who together founded the Mid-Michigan Cow Racing Association and the World Wide Cow Racing Association, plan to take part in Sheridan's Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. Monday. They will be easy to spot atop their bovines.
They say cows, including their own Dusty Roads, enjoy being ridden and the one-ton animals aren't harmed by it.
"Dusty is kind of interesting," Ondrus said. "She'll bellow (with excitement) during the parade. She'll bellow while we're getting her ready for the parade.

Oval track cow racing is very dangerous. In a hard turn they can tip over and seriously injure the rider and themselves. I hope the is Cow drag racing. Those babies can flat do a burnout. Remember the Beach Boys hit, "She's real fine my Booo vine, she's real fine my Boooh vine. My Booooh ooooooh Vine."

This marks the end of the line, for those of us who like to go cow-hunting with a shotgun.

The best part is how they taste after the race (OK, and a couple 10 hours on the smoker and some nice sauce and a few beers, etc.)

I wouldn't call myself a hunter, but if i did, cattle would be the 1 thing i would hunt, but only if i could get the pickup close enough so when it fell over, it would just lay right in the bed.
Those racin' cows might be just a bit to speedy for me, though.
