May 22, 2003 -- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Todd Whitman announced her resignation yesterday following a 30-month-long, often difficult relationship with the White House.
The former New Jersey governor says she wants to spend time with her family.

The answer here is pretty obvious.
With the lefties losing on every front, they will attack the Administration on the Environment.
Christie gets to maintain viablility to run for the Senate, and the Administration, gets to blame her, which the lefties won't believe.
