"Attorney General John Ashcroft, throwing over generations of legal understanding, has declared that there is an all but abiding personal right to firearms ownership, not a right pegged to the maintenance of public security, as the Second Amendment plainly says. (So much for "original intent" when it becomes politically bothersome.)"
This snippet alone proves what a constitutional ignoramus this guy is. The Second Ammendment does not and never has had anything to do public security, unless you are referring to the individual's right to protect themselves. Besides the trend in the legal system in the last 100 years has been to roll back the right to bear firearms. I'm not sure what this guy is talking about in terms of "legal understanding". I question whether this guy has ever read the Second Ammendment. It clearly says the right to bear arms will not be denied. And unless you have a depleted uranium skull, you realize that refers to the citizenry and not law enforcement. It goes without saying that law-enforcement cannot be effective unless they are armed and I'm sure the forefathers weren't overly concerned that this wouldn't be implied in having a national, state, or local security force. The Bill Of Rights is not a list of rights that the goverment has over you, but rather a list of rights that you have over a goverment that exists because in theory you consent it to exist. Tom Teepen has clearly no idea what was originally intended in the Second Ammendment.

Someone should remind Tom Teepen, that drugs like marijuana, cocaine and crack are illegal too, but guess what, people still get them.
To: Joe Brower
They were the weapons of choice in the crack-cocaine wars of the '80s and early 1990s. And I am sure during the illicit drug trade wars the drug dealers and gang members made sure that the so-called "assault weapons" were all legally obtained, unmodified, registered and used in accordance with all laws. I am certain that these individuals have ceased obtaining these weapons during the 10 year long ban.
I love when idiots make your point for you.
To: Puppage
Well, ok: Someone finally said it.
And let us not publicly discuss what a determined school-massacre-wannabe could do if he bothered to plan a little bit, visit home depot, and... well, no details - someone might actually do something similar and blame me for giving him the notion.
Point being:
A. Criminals do not care about laws - by definition;
B. No matter how restrictive the laws are made, and even enforced, murder and mass-murder would assuredly remain quite easily accomplished for the determined criminal;
C. The only real safeguard and security against such criminals (and others... say, tyrants...) any private citizen can possess is the private capacity to effectively use force in his own defense - meaning, now, the legal possession and carry of modern weaponry;
D. The incidence of armed law-abiding citizens "nutting out" and hosing down workplaces and schools is proportionally vanishingly slight and statistically insignificant.
These above are the facts.
They are very simple facts.
These facts are self-evident to any honest rational being.
If the Leftists ever admit to these facts, take it as a sign of the imminence of the End of Days.

probably so.
also, note: the author is mixing apples and oranges. He uses the term "assault rifle" (a rifle-caliber weapon of carbine or greater length which has SELECT FIRE capability) in an argument about "assault weapons" (all of which are strictly semi-automatic)
These bastards can be relied upon to do only one thing: lie whenever and wherever and in whatever manner possible to advance their Statist agenda.

Today, assault rifles still kill efficiently and quickly, as demonstrated by the Beltway snipers. John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo allegedly wielded a .223-caliber Bushmaster XM15, an assault rifle adapted to evade the 1994 ban on assault weapons. You will note that here, too, the AJC blurs the clear distinction between assault rifles and assault weapons. This is one of their oldest, best-proven, and favorite tricks, used to greatest effect in scaring soccer-moms and the rainbow-goobers.

One thing they fail to point out when talking about the "Beltway Sniper" is that only one shot was fired each time.
So it would not have matter how many shots the rifle carried (ah-so lets ban all sporting sniper rifles).
And this what is in the new Fatstein AWB that she just introduced.

never kid yourself - these Statists would ban all ranged weapons right down to a slingshot if they had the chance... and they are working incrementally over generations towards making for themselves just such a chance.

I cancelled my subscription to the St. Pete Slimes several months ago, but at least the back issues are serving me well as bird cage liners. My parrots seem to enjoy pooping on it...especially the Robyn Blummer and Mary Ann Melone columns.

One might remember that it was not a gun crazed , 2nd amendment freak that took out Ms. Weaver at Ruby Ridge. It was a member of the elitelist centralist we honor as law enforcement FBI. For which Reno quickly forgave him.
