hrmn. this is pretty good material.
To: DaughterOfAnIwoJimaVet
Of course comparing cars to women is dumb. Not if you are only a collector.

Not if you are only a collector. Also true. (If you'll pardon me, I will now be off to compare the men of FR to various automobiles.)

Reading to this point confirms the author is an idiot. You have got to be frickin' kidding me.
Your comment proves not only are you in your 40's, a father, and divorced...you're also "whipped."
This piece was brilliant.

>>Ben Franklin said about sex with older women - They don't swell. They don't tell. And afterwards, they're grateful as hell. <<
That, and "all cats are grey in the dark".

I agree. Looks ain't everything.Looks ain't the same thing as sex. Any swingin' richard over 40 will take sex every time...life's too short to waste on prima donnas.

If women relate to the show, then it must contain an element of truth, regardless of what this idiot may believe. So why isn't his contention about "self-absorbtion" sufficient to explain the phenomenon?

I agree. Women in their 20s are nice to look at, but good luck finding one that can carry a conversation that doesn't drive you to distraction after about 3 minutes. This is largely true, though I seem to have lucked out. My wife is in her early 20s...and she has her head more squarely on her shoulders than most people I've known in my 40 years of life. She's intelligent, articulate, conservative, and the best thing that ever happened to me since God made coffee.
Of course, she's the daughter of a U.S. Marine, so that explains a lot. :)

"As much as I like Bernie's social commentary I must say that as a single male about to hit thirty who lacks the social skills for successful dating I find that it leaves me depressed as hell." Go to the Sunday School of your choice. Go to the art classes of your own interests. Participate in the sports that you enjoy. Be honest and yourself. If you never try to con women with "lines", or push them away deliberately, then such legitimate activities will ensure that the women find you.
One of my friends just moved onto a houseboat. He loves it. He enjoys sailing it, and he enjoys working on it as well as grilling out on the back deck while moored in the harbor. He has no social skills, no money to speak of, and no looks, yet women flock to him now that he is doing what he honestly enjoys rather than trying to hit the bars with catchy "lines". The same goes for countless couples who go to Sunday School because they sincerely enjoy it. If you truly enjoy Sunday School, you won't escape single.
Activationproducts: I encourage you to heed the above words of wisdom from Southack. It rings of truth in every word. You've been sold a bill of goods that you have to be suave, wealthy and drop-dead handsome to attract a woman. Such is not the case. Sure, there's a number of people out there who buy into that shallow philosophy (sic), but I'll go out on a limb and guess those aren't the kind of people you want for long-term companionship.
As corny as it may sound, the key to finding the right person is in being yourself and it is in being happy with who you are and what you do. That sort of thing is indeed attractive to the right person.
I empathize with your current situation, having been there. It took me nearly 20 years to comprehend the veracity of this simple approach. I am hopeful that you won't need to make the same mistakes I have.
