[history]
Democratic activist and actor Alec Baldwin remains in the United States, despite promising to leave the country if George W. Bush was elected president in 2000.
This afternoon, Mr. Baldwin will be on Capitol Hill telling Mr. Bush and anybody else who will listen that the Humane Slaughter Act, signed into law in 1958 by Dwight D. Eisenhower and made tougher by former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, is not being enforced in the nation's slaughterhouses and factory farms.

He's a meathead but he may have a point. The tastiest ham I ever ate was from a pig that was fed vending machine expirations, Twinkies, Tastykakes, Clark bars, Necco wafers, sandwiches and the like along with Genesee Cream Ale on tap. It did get some corn and water when we weren't partying nearby but he didn't like those days.

Cruelty to animals is inexcusable.
In a lighter vein, if you think Baldwin had a tizzy in 2000, get ready for some real guffaws in 2004, when
President Bush will be reelected
in a
REPUBLICAN LANDSLIDE VICTORY!

I have to say this issue should be at the top of Pres. Bush's agenda!! Why is he distracted by other junk like the Middle East or the Economy.

Figures that Jim Moron would introduce this human piece of debris. Yeah, they'll go out afterwards and have a few drinks and slap some women around.

Strangely Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe.
Perhaps Herr Baldwin will show up at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe whilst "spending a year dead, for tax purposes"?
(No - that's not a threat - it's straight from the book series)

I detest people like Mr. Baldwin, but he has a point about our slaughterhouses. These centralized, slaughtering and packaging centers are not only inhumane for the animals, they are prime breeding grounds for new pathogens, which increasingly contaminate our food supply. People get very sick and some die, and the victim is blamed for not cooking the meat well enough, when the pathogen should never have been in the meat in the first place.
Additonally, these meat industries recruit and employ illegal aliens and other poor, illiterate migrant workers, who have little understanding of good hygiene, and who often carry TB, Hepatitis A, B, and C, and leprosy themselves...it's a bad situation for Americans as well as the animals. ( I do not know if these diseases can be transmitted in the meat, but the pathogens they pick up from diseased cows or poor slaughtering methods are transmitted ).
I wonder why Mr. Baldwin hasn't mentioned the abusive human aspect of the meat packaging industry.

I doubt he say, "So long, and thanks for all the fish." They may have been treated cruelly...
