American Christian leaders warn Bush on road map

Twenty-two American Christian conservative leaders signed a letter sent to US President George W. Bush on Monday protesting the road map for Middle East peace saying in its current form it "could lead to disaster."

"You and the United States are being undermined by the other members of the so-called 'Quartet' - the European Union, the United Nations and Russia. You and the United States are being pressured to show we are 'evenhanded' and are being urged to pressure Israel to make concessions," the letter says.

"It would be morally reprehensible for the United States to be 'evenhanded' between democratic Israel, a reliable friend and ally that shares our values, and the terrorist infested Palestinian infrastructure that refuses to accept the right of Israel to exist at all," the letter adds.

The letter cited celebrations in Palestinian neighborhoods after the September 11 attacks and similar "displays of glee" after every terrorist attack in Israel.

The signers - among Bush's most significant political supporters - urged the president to keep in mind a series of principles while pursuing peace, including that "Israel has a right to defend itself when attacked and should not be pressured by the United States, the United Nations or anyone else to be passive in the face of attacks on its citizens."

Gary Bauer, President of American Values and a former Republican presidential candidate, organized the letter.

"This weekend's wave of terrorist bombings in Israel should cause a fundamental reevaluation of why we are pushing for the creation of a Palestinian state when thugs are still in control of the Palestinian Authority," Bauer said in a statement.

The Christian signers included: Reverend Jerry Falwell; Reverend John Hagee, a prominent evangelical pastor in Texas; Elwood McQuaid, editor-in-chief of Friends of Israel; Paul Weyrich, chairman and CEO of the Free Congress Foundation; Janet Parshall, the nationally syndicated talk-show host; and Michael Little, president of the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Chairman of American Friends for a Safe Israel, Herbert Zweibon, who is Jewish, also signed the letter.

Re your # 2....

Our president's effort at being fair is a "betrayal" of no one as you state.

Israel is not above reproach and without any fault in the hell hole called the Middle East.....Fairness for all people is needed there.

It's been outrageously "unfair" for Israel to have to give concession after concession to a bunch of murderous pigs. It's outrageously "unfair" for Israel to have to even consider sharing it's very sacred capital, Jeruselum, with a people/culture who have no legitimate claim to it whatsoever. Don't dare even start on how Israel needs to be "fair also".

"Fairness for all people is needed there."

Not possible. A liberal's daydream.
The palestinians prove that almost on a daily basis. You cannot make deals with people who play by different rules.

The point made is that Israel has not been without fault since 1947....Most American non-Jews, myself included, back Israel.

It is this pompous "we are perfect and always free of any fault" syndrome that Jews often project which engenders problems for them and others.

No one cares about Jewish religious theology and view of the next world. It is how they condescendingly interact with other folks in this world that is so distructive for them and American non-Jews alike.

The Jews are not the ones murdering civilian men, women and children. Talk about no relating!

Do you think you could live in a country that's connstantly under bombing attacks? Do you want to negotiate with these bombers? Once again, a liberal's wet dream. All the anti-American hollywood apologists for vicious dictators are never concerned with the murders, rapes and thefts of those dictators, to them, ony America's response is not acceptable.

Again...You refuse to address my point, which is, that there is no group, religion, or segment of humanity that is free from fault and how they have treated others...........Jews included.

You're correct, however, my point is directed at you're faitness comment. You cannot negotiate fairly with people whose primary goal is to wipe you out and everyone connected to you. When the Palestinians remove the bombers from from their midst, then and only then should Israel attempt to negotiate with them. Don't forget that Barak gave them almost everything they demanded and arafat turned them down. How in Heaven's name can you deal fairly with someone like him?

I pretty much agree with your # 10....I just don't like that PERFECTION syndrome which the Jews often project.

Now...Let me give you my idea which might help control these maniac terror bombings.....and altho it may seem funny at first, I wish the Israelis would consider it because religion and religious hocus pocus is taught to these people since birth. This dogma engenders hatred for non-muslims and more importantly overcomes the inate and more human desire of self preservation....Hence suicide is desirable since it assures paradise.

My idea is to let the Palistinians and the rest of the Arab world know that the remains (such as they might be) of the terrorists after death are to be gathered up and sewed into the carcass of a pig.....and therefore into eternal damnation...all this according to their so called "religion".

Furthur, I would have public burials of these sub-humans in a special 'CEMETARY OF THE DAMNED". There would be wide publication of these special funerals by TV etc....Just my view.

Have a nice day.
