[history]
Two decades ago, Ferndale was, well, just another suburb of Detroit.
This week, lampposts in the city's downtown display rainbow pennants, crowning Ferndale's unlikely transformation to what many are calling the gay-friendliest city in Michigan.
On June 1, the city will host Michigan's largest gay-pride gathering, marking the nationwide start of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. Organizers hope Motor City Pride, in its third year in Ferndale, grows to 20,000 patrons from last year's 15,000.

Keeping them small this year "was tasteful, and not shoving it down anyone's throat," said Lary, 41
That is just way too easy, I won't even remark. I can't believe that he didn't have a smirk on his face when he delivered that line.

I used to watch "Ferndale Tonight" and it seemed like such a nice place. I do remember one time when the host discussed having a whole gay marine regiment so that they would feel included.

Matt Drudge is gay?? I didn't know that.
I thought Ann Arbor was where the gays were concentrated in Michigan. I saw an article in a newspaper several years ago that said Ann Arbor was the home to one of the largest gay populations in the eastern United States (in addition to being the home of the University of Michigan). Ann Arbor is also almost as far to left as Berkeley.
I never heard of Ferndale before. But then again, I moved out of Michigan back in 1998. How things change!!
