I hear executives at Universal are turning green this week after a not so incredible screening of 'The Hulk.'
The studio's top brass was practically speechless. Apparently Director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) has turned in a meldramatic take on the comic book with an emphasis on drama-as in really long and boring--uh oh.
The 'suits' concerns are way beyond the fanboy fears that the CGI big guy will look cheesy.
Still, isn't this what Mr. Lee promised rom the get go? He has always said that Hulk would be an examiniation of our repressed selves and the release of unchecked rage-an emotion that Bruce Banner expresses by turning into a 15 foot tall 'Mighty Greeen Giant.'
I always expected the story to be psychological journey-it's about the Hulk inside of all of us. Still, one exec says, 'Its like he combined 'The Ice Storm' with 'Shrek'.'
Yikes.

Looks like a big summer stock drop for Universal.

STOP EXCERPTING!! AAAAAAUGH! I can't STAND it anymore!
To: hellinahandcart
It's not excerpted. That's all the stuff about the Hulk movie at the Anderson Jones column . The rest is about other films.
Try this link, since the others aren't usable.

Sometimes it is better than way. I don't want to read a long review about a long movie based upon a comic book of dubious value. What happened to making movies based upon literary classics?

Sorry, it was only one sentence that was the writers opinion and not news.

Don't take it personally. I overreacted when the link didn't work. Sorry. I'm just so sick of seeing "excerpted - click for full article" all around the forum lately that I could absolutely go kick walls...
To: hellinahandcart
That's cool.

What happened to making movies based upon literary classics? Hulk no understand lines of little black squiggles . . . and neither do target audiences.

"What happened to making movies based upon literary classics?" The literary classics were written by dead white men.

Thick brick walls.
To: ewing
Hard to imagine it could actually be worse than Bruce Bixby's and Lou Ferigno's Hulk. And that lasted on TV for years.

That arrest picture of Nick Nolte looked like the Hulk had just pounded him into sand! If I knew how I would find it and post it. LOL!

I was stunned the first time I watched a trailer of this thing. It looks AWFUL and I'm not dreaming of going to the theater to see it. The CGI looked like something from the early seventies.
