Why do you say this? According to the AMA's own Web text:
"During the past three decades large numbers of Muslims have immigrated to the United States. They have come from
the Middle East, North Africa, the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. "

True enough, there have been many Moslem immigrants. At the same time Nation of Islam was picked up by the Sunni in this country. It's still growing anyway.
A fair counting of Moslems in the US may not be possible because we do not ask religious affiliation in the census, but the indigenous African-American Moslem presence is still greater than that of the immigrants.
Also note that NOT ALL immigrants from the Middle East are Moslems. Christians continue to flee the place as they have been doing for the last century.
Since we have religious liberty in America, many of those Middle-Eastern immigrants who were Moslem when they arrived are now Pentacostals and Baptists.
