How come I'm picturing a Chevy Chase pratfall?

That reputation was a bit of a bum rap, IMHO. He had some falls, but then again so did Slick Willie.

I think it started when he had two very high-profile falls within a very short period of time, like two or three days.

He's also got the record for shortest time lapse between assassination attempts, I believe.

Chevey Chase has commented on his Gerald Ford impersonation, surprise surprise, he wanted Ford to look stupid so that he would be voted out of office. He was a true blue, left liberal (I'm not sure if he still is, the interview he did, was saying everything in the past tense). He admitted that sometimes the impersonations SNL would use, would be politically motivated.

My husband tells me that Ford was a fantastic football player, a good athlete, and I think he even turned down a professional career offer. The jokes about him being a klutz are just liberal spin.

Praying that Ford will soon be feeling better.

Yeah, and Gerald didn't have his stumbling around at night looking for or returning from a nookie run.

You are 100% correct. Although I disagreed with Ford's politics (too Rockefeller Republican), he was no bumbling fool from a physical standpoint...probably the most athletic president up to that date. Few remember that Ford was a star of the University of Michigan football team. He was a superb athlete.
