After Sept. 11, the risk of a further spread of weapons of mass destruction is seen in a new light. There is a fear that terrorist groups or reckless states might launch attacks with such weapons. The United States and its allies have now shown their readiness to deal with the risk through armed action in the case of Iraq. A horribly brutal regime has been eliminated and can no longer reactivate a weapons program -- if there still was one. How are other suspicious cases to be tackled?

No kidding. The problem Blix faces is that his only potential employer, the UN, has become irrelevant.

Blah, Blah, Blah. You had your chance, found nothing at all, wanted to spend up to a year to also find nothing, bad mouthed the United States and it's President.

This would have given saddam more time to develope more wepons, kill more of his own people, support more terroists and reward the killers.

What are you going to do if ever you're allowed to return to Iraq, have an extended vacation during which you will also find nothing just like before?

FAT CHANCE, MORON.

You know what? I believe in inspections too. But only if the inspectors are truly after the truth, and only if they are granted unfettered access to the country. If not, well then, there is the "Iraq Solution"...

Unlike the NYT and the WP, the WSJ is a real newspaper that allows different points of view to be aired.

Sometimes they are profoundly silly, like Blix's piece - but the authors are usually people like Blix who are key players in current events, for good or ill.

Were it not so rude and coarse, I'd be tempted to respond, "Hey Hans -- inspect THIS!"

But that would be wrong.

*Ahem*

"Last Thursday [April 24, 2003], the Security Council unanimously extended U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's authority over the oil-for-food program through June 3."
