The point I am trying to make is that an unprotected body in the ocean will shortly be nothing but bones, in a matter of days, perhaps a week, not several months.

I understand. I haven't really heard and explanation. I've read the currents had been fast and relentless, the water would have been cold and salt is a preservative, maybe these factor played a role?
