You are so right. I understand her being depressed about the death of her husband, but life MUST go on. We can't kill ourselves when our spouse dies or leaves us. I know that is easy for me to say. But I have watched as my mother, father-in-law, uncles, aunts, friends have lost spouses.... and although it was a LONG hard road for them to walk alone, with a heavy burden on their shoulders, they have come through. They still get teary on special occasions when talking about their deceased spouse... but they move forward. I know a lot of elderly do suffer from depression, though, and loss of spouse is one of the main reasons for it. This is just so sad. But I guess she was getting help for it. So sad.

Is it just me, or it this sentence unreadable?

As to Linda, I too will miss her. She would show up on KSFO on occasion, and I found her to be a witty and inspirational woman. I knew she was still mourning her husband, but had no idea of the depths of it. RIP Linda.

Oh, this makes me so sad. This is the first I've heard of her, but the pain of loss must have been so overwhelming.

This is just so sad. But I guess she was getting help for it.

I don't think she was getting help for it. She was getting *medicine* for it but that is not the same thing. She needed someone to care enough and give time enough to help her through all the heartache and loneliness until she found the will to move on. Somehow, the comforts and isolation of living in a nice area probably sheltered her from what she really needed most - human contact.

Of course, some will sink into depression no matter what you do and some will pretend to be okay while thinking about killing themselves underneath.

Yet I somehow doubt she had the support system in place to help her cope with this and that's what's really sad. It's so easy for the widow to get all sorts of attention for the month or so after the husband dies and then is left alone with everyone else assuming *somebody else* will provide the long-term care.

I think this happens far too often for people who are not public figures but it doesn't make the headlines unless they start shooting a gun off in a public place. There's a lot of lonely folks out here.

I saved many of her columns and had occasion to communicate with her through e-mail. I have missed her so much and wondered if and when she would return. I have been fighting back the tears all morning after I read of her death. My heart goes out to her daughter.

To love someone that much must have made him an idol to her. She was a fine columnist with sound ideas. There must have been other problems because suicide is the final negation, and if her husband was her only reason for living then she was, indeed, a sad person. All the lonely people.
