Press obviously was trying to play the comedy angle, without much success. Buchanan didn't really seem sure what to focus on here. I mean, all respect to Kyle, and I read him every week, but what makes him special isn't what he thinks about the UN. What makes him special is the fact that he's articulate enough at 14 to have a syndicated column.

Either a genius (hope he doesn't 'peak' too soon), or someone in the PR department is pulling our legs about him being "14".
It's possible, though.

I keep wondering if bringing up "whiz kids" is the right thing to do. Shouldn't they experience some childhood before they get into grownup stuff?
To: modern_orthodox
Press obviously was trying to play the comedy angle, without much success. Kyle's columns are very well reasoned and it seems to me on par with any adult's. They're probably miles ahead of the usual liberal slant.
Bill Press apparently took precious air time and tried to belittle Kyle using his age. That was mean, selfish, and disrespectful. And opportunistic. All of it difficult to believe... is this a correct transcription?

BUCHANAN: Would you get out of the United Nations? WILLIAMS: Absolutely. Theyve done nothing but harm for us....
Absolutely fantastic. First serious question, Kyle knocks it out of the park! ;-)

Shouldn't they experience some childhood before they get into grownup stuff? This kid is a natural; it's just the way he is. You'll see him here on the board from time to time as Kwilliams.

Shouldn't they experience some childhood before they get into grownup stuff? Childhood isn't the same for everyone. He seems well enough adjusted to participate in society. All we see is his writing and public appearances. At home he may have been what you would call a 'normal' child.
I'm glad to see real accomplishment being rewarded.

>>>>>>>Although he handled the interview well, his views are all party line. I don't detect any original content. Same with those of his columns that I have read.
Yes, parrots can be cute and sometimes even remarkable... but they're still just parrots.>>>>>>
No, I saw his interview last night and he is not a parrot. I think he is a sharp person, passionately interested in the topic as some kids are toy cars. If your parents spend time teaching you values and lessons in life, it is hard to be anything else. I think he understands some of the wisdom of Republican values. It is just common sense really.
I don't think it is about loosing a childhood although it can be often hard to engage in "small talk". Some people are just born old souls and it is hard to relate to others his own age because his interests are rare. But I am sure their are many things he does do that are age appropriate. But I may be very wrong too.
Now he has the fundamentals down, I think he needs to focus on principal concepts of cycles of history. Spend time researching concepts that have and have not worked around the world to draw a wealth of information to use in measures to address society moving forward. He has under his belt, accumulative knowledge that can help him achieve more in his lifetime.
For the cyclical impact of economies and how our world developed with extensive look into corporate warfare, I recommend Professor Daniel Yergin's books (Pulitzer Prize winning author), The Prize and Commanding Heights. They are available on tape at a rental "books on tape" place. For a clear look into the cyclical nature of society, a review of the two hundred year cycles of Dynasty's in China offer a reflection into the ebb and flow of society. Drawing on history is essential for anyone, but is a particularly good methodology to use when you have the mental capacity to grasp larger concepts, but are short on the life experience where many lessons are learnt.
I wish him well and will make a point to watch him over the years. He jumped out at me in his interview not because of his age, but what he had to say and how he said it.

I certainly hope its a correct transcript. It was advertised on msnbc.com as such! In that case... perhaps Bill Press should seek professional counseling regarding projecting his latent adolescent fantasies onto others...

This kid is a natural; it's just the way he is. The link between intelligence and conservatism is clearly established. Someone who isn't indoctrinated into the Liberal mantra and has learned how to think for himself has latched onto the only clear path.
This is NOT the same as parents who let their kids sacrifice their childhood on the altar of sexuality (Jon Bennet Ramsey, Brittney) or athletics (the Williams girls, ALL female gymnists).
This kid is great and I can breath a little easier knowing he will probably lead his people from intellectual slavery.

I grew up in a similar fashion. I am now 33 and am incredibly grateful for my childhood. I had fun and was reckless as a teenager, but the bottom line for me was... I half faked having "childhood" fun because I was inately just a sponge to consume more info. My parents guided me but never forced me to learn, it was just what I was drawn to... thriving on learning, as some girls are drawn to Barbies I guess. What do you do force yourself to stop learning? That is not natural either. I had zero interest in Barbie and thought it to be a waste of time. At five I was learning about the art of negotiation, compounding interest and fundamental principles of life. Those lessons shone like neon lights for me.I think it is hard to understand until you lived it.
Now it would be a whole different story if his parents MADE him do it. From his enthusiam I did not detect that though.

"Press is a idiot."You've been reading my mind again. That nonsense about Britney Spears. And (oh, yes!) Press's good friend, Roger "Hitchcock." Somewhere tonight, there's a village looking for its missing idiot.
