NEW YORK - After three trials in 12 years, a black man was convicted Wednesday in the stabbing death of a Jewish scholar during a 1991 riot in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood that widened the city's racial divide and contributed to Rudolph Giuliani's election as mayor.

Let's see... The victim identified the guy as the killer before dying.. The guy had a knife with the victim's blood in his backpocket and he confessed. And the jury acquitted him a decade ago!!!

The real nonsense is that in the previous trials he said he didn't do it. This time the defense was - 'Oh yeah I did do it but I did it because I was drunk and caught up in the excitement."
Hang 'em high!

From the story:
Lemrick Nelson, 27, was found guilty by a federal jury of violating the civil rights of Yankel Rosenbaum. Ruling on a separate question, the jury found that Nelson's actions did not result in Rosenbaum's death.
As a result he faces up to 10 years in prison, rather than a possible life sentence.
Compromise verdict, I take it.

Compromise verdict, I take it. Evidently. They've been saying they were hopelessly deadlocked for days, then suddenly came in with the verdict.

the jury found that Nelson's actions did not result in Rosenbaum's death. I guess the knife cuts to Rosenbaum's clothing let in cold air and he caught pneumonia.

Yep.

A jury of his peers? You got it. Same deal as OJ. Nelson was found with the bloody knife on him, was ID'ed by the dying victim, and confessed. Obviously not enough to convict

ACtually, Nelson was found not guilty of murder 10 years ago. Jury nullification.

The original jury could have been from the OJ trial.
