Newt Gringrich was driven out of politics for doing the same. Are conservative goals some how less important than personal ambition?
My above statement has nothing to do with Newt's "personal ambition" and everything to do with Newt's conservative goals.
Ask your retorical question to somebody who deserves such.

It's not rhetorical.
To ask the question another way: Will supposedly conservative leaders risk their own personal political futures to do what's right for America?
Will conservative leaders stand up to liberals and much of the media to accomplish goals like seriously lowering taxes and saving the second amendment?
Right now, it looks like "W" will not. Though I still hope to be pleasantly surprised.

The core argument of this thread is whether "W" is playing smart politics, or merely betraying a core constituency for the sake of expediency.
To help decide which this is, I ask the "W" defenders to provide discrete behavior criteria to help determinate which path "W" is on.
What future actions can we expect if "W" is playing politics? What future actions would indicate "W" is betraying gunowners?
Once those are provided we can all sit back and let "W's" actions be our guide.
