OK let's post some first questions to Howell Raines...

At the NY Times, it's not lying that's wrong; it's getting caught.
ZACTLY.

Howell's gonna get the boot! At least, that's what I hope. He's insane.
What will be really interesting is if they pick up some actual malicious wrongdoing on Raines' part (right now it just looks like he's a bumbling fool who was easily manipulated by Blair because of his authoritarian, elitist personality)

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have some good news. Here at the Times we pride ourselves on our high standards of objectivity and journalistic integrity. Accordingly, the editors have decided not to renew our contracts with Reuters, AP, and Al Jazeera, and instead compose our news and editorial pages from feeds from Free Republic."
To: Petronski
"They did not say what it was about. Just a general, all-purpose rant I guess."
Well, they MUST have been talking about DU itself... and they were absolutely correct, every word of it ;-)

The vehemence and prominence and printing of his picture - that guy wasn't just shamed, he was lynched.
Oh, please. If one of your employees violated the alleged public trust so very egregiously, you'd tar and feather him too.

I believe that is an old add for headache rememdy such as Bayer Aspirin. I remember it from when I was a very little girl. Me too. It was either in the B&W ads in the back of National Geographic, or in the old Life Magazine.

Howell, Gerald and Arthur request that you join your newsroom colleagues at an open forum at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, to discuss the Jayson Blair matter and anything else you might have on your mind. Uh, yes, Howell. How did you get to be such a first class a-hole?

The best way to keep a man quiet is to lynch him. We're all hammering away on them, and him, but no one is asking the obvious question, its kind of like the pink elephant (no log cabin republican pun intended). Why the hit piece, why the need to destroy this guy with both guns blazing, and constantly re-loading? Why the need to make him look so rouge and out of control? They could have fired him, shamed him a bit, and made it look simply, like he was warned, didn't listen, did it again, and "we at the times don't tolerate this". When the LA times fired a photo guy for doctoring pics, they didn't do a hit piece on the guy. Blair also wrote for the boston globe, they didn't go all out. What is the Times afraid he's going to say?

Uh, yes, Arthur. Other than living through birth, what qualifies you to be the publisher of the NY Times?
