...that's all so far but this could be big. Kronburg is THE leading news source on things pertaining to the Texas Legislature.
OK Freepers - any word on this? Keep your eyes peeled and try to get us some confirmation.
And for anyone else just tuning in - earlier today 53 Democrat legislators dissappeared from the Texas statehouse to break quorum and prevent the legislature from meeting. The reason they did so was obstructionist and strictly partisan - they broke quorum because the House was scheduled to take up a redistricting bill for the United States Congress that would have added 5 to 6 new GOP seats to our national majority. The bill was headed for passage because the GOP has a solid majority in the House and the votes to pass it.
As a response to the quorum break, the Speaker issued a Call of the House. This means, per the Texas Constitution and House rules under it, that any legislator who is not at the capitol must report immediately and may be taken into police custody and delivered there if they refuse. The Texas Rangers and state troopers have been dispatched to carry out this task. Anticipating such a call, these Democrat fugitives have gone into hiding and may have even left the state (hence the OK report).

Isn't a quorum just a majority? If so, where are the Pubbies. Why do they need the Dems?

We have the coordinates. For God's sake send in the JDAMS. It's the only way...

Quorum in the Texas House is 2/3rds of the 150 seats, so the 88 Republicans and 3 remaining Democrats have to catch nine truants to have a quorum.

Send in the hookers! Then call their wives. (Only, if the wives aren't part of the hookers.)

Nope... need 100 of the 150 to do business in the House and 21 of the 31 must agree to bring a bill to the floor in the Senate.....

Isn't a quorum just a majority? If so, where are the Pubbies. Why do they need the Dems? In Texas it's 2/3rds, which means we need 100 out of 150. Three or four dems (all allies of the speaker or semi-conservatives) did not participate in this scam and remained behind. From what I've heard, all they need to do is find 9 of the 53 missing ones and bring them back. Then the house can meet and pass whatever it pleases with a GOP majority of 80-something to about 15 'rats.

Well, at least the Dems found a Dem town to party in.

Excellent info. Any freepers near Ardmore? Spread the word and see if we can help locate them and confirm it. Then let the good men and women of the Texas Rangers take it from there!
To: Torie
Well at some point their constituents will run out of state funding if the Legislature doesn't meet to okay some budgets. At that point they may can be persuaded to attend.... just a guess on my part.
