Kids Desert Saturday-Morning TV Shows

Kids Desert Saturday-Morning TV Shows

Over the past twenty years, the audience of kids for Saturday-morning network cartoon shows has plummeted from more than 20 million to fewer than two million, even while the children's population of the country has increased by 10 percent, according to the Animation World website.

Reasons include several factors ranging from the rising divorce rate, with parents deciding to spend more "quality time" with their kids on weekends, to the rising popularity of cable TV.

As a result, Animation World observed, "network cartoons are left struggling to make money, while advertisers remain befuddled without a mainstream channel to promote new toys and products to children."

"They just aren't funny or entertaining any more"

Boy you have that right. I have a 3 and 1 1/2 year old. Early on in my first child's life, I switched on the tube early one saturday morning to watch the cartoons with her....and couldn't find any that I recognized. Bugs Bunny, Foghorn Leghorn, etc are all long gone. They have been replaced by the most inane garbage you could possibly imagine.

One of the things that I hate the most about liberalism is its all-encompassing nature. These lefty scumbags plan on sparing us NOTHING. Every aspect of our lives needs to be manipulated so that we all adopt PC modes of thinking. Not even our cartoons are sacred.

Remember the ABC Saturday Morning Special? They had The Littles, Soup for President, The Winged Pony, Miss Switch, etc.

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim on Sunday nights has a few good cartoons. Sealab is a riot.

The Powerpuff Girl amuse me to no end.

I AM MOJO JOJO. I, MOJO JOJO, WILL RULE THE WORLD. THEN THE WORLD, WHICH MOJO JOJO IS RULER OF, WILL NOT BE RULED BY YOU, BECAUSE I AM MOJO JOJO AND YOU ARE NOT MOJO JOJO...."

Once, I was channel-surfing on a weekday afternoon and came across a toon playing and caught the dialogue which consisted of an amazon-type woman giving a medal to a guy and he replied "For me? A mere male?". All I could do was shake my head and move onto something else.

Yes, it was pure PC propaganda with 4 non-American kids telling the American kid how his country was ruining the environment every week.

I found the website. Good God!!! What absolute PC nonsense.

This was a cartoon definately produced during the Clinton years!!!

Captain Planet
UNBEFREAKINLIEVABLE!!!

Thanks, Ted! You censor all the classic cartoons and give us this bulls**t.

"Saturday morning was mostly westerns"

How aweful! You had to watch as bands of gun-toting white guys slaughtered minorities and destroyed the environment! This just proves how menacing those shows were....look at you now! You are a freeper!

You named all my favorite Saturday morning shows. My brother would always pull for Oilcan Harry against Mighty Mouse, leaving us younger kids to run crying to Mom to make him stop!

..uh, I'm also a gun-toting white guy, though I've yet to slaughter anyone and try to be a good steward of my land.

"Bugs Bunny, Foghorn Leghorn, etc are all long gone. They have been replaced by the most inane garbage you could possibly imagine. "

I saw an interview with Hannah (might have been Barbera) of Hannah-Barbera. They asked him if he had any regrets. And he said, "Yes. That I can't make the kids laugh like I used to. By the time it gets through the censors and the committees, it just isn't funny."

It's a crime against humanity.

And I saw another one, where they talked about how they had edited old Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons to make them PC.

I reeeeeaaaaallly wish I had BOOMERANG, but it's not offered here in Nashville. :( The only thing worth watching (IMO) on the regular cartoon network now is SCOOBY-DOO.

You know, I'm not sure if its just the decline of Saturday Morning, but of cartoons in general.

When Transformers and Superfriends were on, they were pretty innocent, but now even the shows OBVIOUSLY aimed at 8 and 9 year olds are full of sarcastic jokes, cynical remarks and quasi-adult modes of humor. Watch Nickelodeon for a few minutes and you'll see what I mean.

Of course, Ghostbusters was SUPPOSED to have that quality, and it was one of the great animated series. It's just gone too far, Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, etc. I like to laugh but what happened to good ol' good vs. evil.

Power Rangers signalled the end of quality morality plays for children(males especially.) Where are this generation's Optimus Primes? I'll tell you, they can only find them on the big screen with a Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.

Too much Saved by the Bell, Guys Next Door garbage and not enough Wheeled Warriors, Visionaries and Thundercats.

Almighty Isis! Isis! Isis! What a hoot that was!

The best part though were the Schoolastic Rock Shorts:

VERB! That's what's hap-pen-in! I can take N-ow-n and bend it! Verb!...

"Today's cartoons SUCK....what with the three frames per second 'animation' and the mushy PC story lines and the neutered violence and the cynical product tie-ins...who WOULD watch? Kids are smarter than that."

I knew i wouldn't have to read very far before somebody said it. The new stuff SUCKS.......lmao
