The Democrats really only have a few issues to sell to the American public:

1. Class Warfare. (hate the rich, even if you are the rich.)

2. Racial Preference in the form of affirmative action.

3. Increased government control of economic decision making, and the associated reduction in economic freedom for the individual.

4. More denial of the failure of liberal social engineering programs. (like a unionized education monopoly)

5. Cheap and frequent abortion.

This is their message, the things they stand for. It's easy to say all the "I hate the shrub" noise, but to win an election you need to be for something and these are the only clubs in the Democrat's bag. It doesn't sound to me like these are the things that Americans are interested in right now.

6) Gaydom.

7) Eliminate the military and "just get along" with everyone even if it means appeasement and covering up military strikes against the US.

8) Unethical use of political power to enrich friends and destroy enemies.

9) And don't forget the impossible and mystical "lockbox" that they never explain how it will actually work. But that it will suddenly make future social security payments guaranteed and no longer dependent on the US economy. This despite the fact that the funds aren't there now and you have to invest them somewhere like US treasuries (which is what is done now) to keep them from being eaten up by inflation.
