The state exported $213 million in goods to Japan in 2001. The state’s 11th largest market, Germany, saw an increase of 36 percent in exports from 2000 to 2001. The value of West Virginia’s exports to Germany was $53 million in 2001.

Kidde Fire Fighting, Ranson (www.kidde-fire.com) Kidde Fire Fighting enjoys business from Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Pacific Rim countries. The company’s Ranson plant is home to the Automatic Sprinkler and Powhatan brand names. Kidde Fire Fighting has recently worked with Airbus Industries in France on specialized fire protection equipment for aircraft hangars. Airbus has specified Kidde Fire Fighting equipment, which will result in nearly $2 million of additional export sales by the end of 2003.
Mustang Survival Mfg. Inc. Elizabeth (www.mustangsurvival.com) Mustang manufactures air and sea survival apparel, including life preservers, immersion suits and anti-gravity garments. Recent export sales have occurred in Singapore, Malaysia, Spain, Chile, South Korea, Pakistan, the Philippines and the Netherlands. Mustang has expanded its product offering and added sales support. The company recently has received an export order for more than $250,000 that will ship later this year. Mustang expects a 5 percent to 10 percent increase in employment over the next few years attributable to exports.
