Intel yes, Microsoft not really. Carmack is a big proponent of OpenGL and his games are cross-platform; MS would obviously prefer that he used DirectX.

Who cares about directx, it's the operating system that gets sold with the box that your teenagers and college kids will be all over you to buy. that's if you don't go get it for yourself.
