Prisoner Gets More Time For Paid Writings
Convicted Rapist Mostly Writes About Prison Conditions

SAN ANTONIO -- From the solitude of his prison cell, convicted rapist William Bryan Sorens has been writing articles for several newspapers and magazines for most of the 19 years he's been in Texas prisons.
Most times, Sorens says, he got paid for it.
And that's gotten him into trouble.
A prison disciplinary committee found him guilty in March of operating a business from his cell in the Wynne Unit, near Huntsville.
That means Sorens won't be considered for release from his 60-year sentence until December 2006. That's a year after his first possible release date.
The prison committee also ordered that Sorens transfer from a light-duty job in the prison's kitchen to more strenuous work in its factories, which produce license plates and mattresses.
The San Antonio Express-News reports that Sorens mostly writes about prison conditions and composes opinion pieces for Christian and so-called "white nationalist" newsletters.
He had an article titled "Hardcore Hate" and attributed to "John Doe" that was published in a 2001 issue of Playboy magazine.
Earlier this year he sold a story about prison censorship to Penthouse magazine.
Sounds to me like he had a racket going on in there, time to get back to work making those license plates. For his crimes he should be on the chain gang.
He should change his name to Mumia, then he could send tapes to Ivy League Commencement ceremonies.
