NOW the Congressional Democrats are critical of how much the institutional costs of having a President add up. The difference is, that today we really do have a President, while for the period January 1993 to January 2001 (the Interregnum), there was an imposter who occupied the Oval Office, but failed to carry out many of the assigned duties of President. Couldn't fight a war that was thrust into his face, couldn't concentrate on the business of governance, but boy, could he ever drum up campaign cash and enjoy the perks and immunities conferred upon the office.

Heck. Just one or two of Empress Hazel O'Leary's trips to Africa with her HUGE retinue probably cost the taxpayers as much as this trip to the the Lincoln.
