"People are hurting, unemployment is on the rise, anxiety runs high, investment is chilled, the stock market is stagnant," House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) said in urging support for the bill. "This will not stand."
Thus the LA Times quotes DeLay today, in its story on the House passing a $500 billion-plus tax cut yesterday. DeLay has the kind of backbone that inspires - - - would that we had more Republicans with his courage and commitment to principle!

"""But the bill puts the House at odds with the Senate, even though both are controlled by Republicans. The Senate Finance Committee on Thursday approved legislation that would cut taxes less and departs further than the House measure from the president's core goal of eliminating taxes on dividends."""
Those Senate RINOs are a pathetic bunch, especially when their weakness and dithering is contrasted with DeLay's courage and rectitude.

"""The Senate bill also includes aid to financially struggling states, which is opposed by many House Republicans. """
Why give money to states , to reward them for spending too much?

The Senate bill also includes aid to financially struggling states Which states and how much?
Hmmm. I wonder who the senators are and will they vote for it now?

Don't get to excited. At times elected Republicans seem to have some balls; but more times than not it is a marage - they never seem to last long. I'm not sure what happens when Republicans get elected, it might be like a pre-op sex change situation - or maybe it relates more to turning a male calf into a steer rather than a bull. Regardless, as soon as they are visibile, they seem to get cut off.
So, don't expect this burst of intelegence to last; it won't.

Gordon Smith, our RINO in Oregon, wants the money to go to the states....and they call me and want money for his campaign. After his vote against Alaskan oil I told his campaign what they could do with their requests for my money.

what they could do with their requests for my money. Good for you!! Levin and Stabenow know better than to contact me for my money. Taxes are the only way they get anything from me.

Someone with such little knowledge of Tom DeLay should not be touting a website on FR.

Are you refering to me? If so, just look at the history of Senate Republicans. Remember Clinton's impeachment "trial" in the Senate? Remember the "power sharing" arrangement after the 2000 elections? Remember the VT Senator deciding to go independent to give a slight majority to the Dems? Yet, no power sharing by the Dems? Republican Senators come in 2 forms, steers and sheep!

Perhaps it has escaped your notice but Mr. DeLay is not in the Senate. He is Majority leader in the House of Representatives. If your complaint is about Republicans in general that is one thing but in this case you seemed to be criticizing Tom DeLay for lack of courage. That would show a critical lack of knowledge of Mr. DeLay and his history. He is one of the ballsy Republicans.

I am working on a new post where I eat crow for thinking that Mr Delay was in the Senate. Sorry to tar and feather your hero with a false assumption.

No need to go any further unless you have more you want to say. I share your irritation with many Senate Republicans. They insist on playing by the Marquis De Queensbury Rules while getting kicked in the ***** by the Democrats on a regular basis. To Democrats, politics is a blood sport with only one goal, power - gaining and keeping it. The Republicans want to win nicely and govern well. Therefore, you have such an imbalance of tactics and ethics.

10-4 to that! Actually my "eating crow" in the post which should be ready tomorrow (if I don't get a new crisis about closing on another house, which is supposed to happen Fri am) is minor. But I thought it showed what a "mistake" was; ie. a mistake is an error, hitting a 16 yr old girl over the head with a bottle is not a mistake, it is an attack! I used it to kill 2 birds with one stone (bottle?). I will tie in the Shitcago hazing and the Oreo law suit. I think you will like it, and I'll send you the link when I post it.
