The struggle for America's soul
WND ^ | May 10, 2003 | henry lamb

Tom Daschle's disarming demeanor in front of a TV camera presents the image of a patriot struggling to save America from the clutches of right-wing ideologues hellbent on overtaking the judiciary – and the nation. He has no problem distorting the clear instruction of the Constitution by refusing to allow an up-or-down vote on the president's nominations for the federal judiciary.

The ongoing battle over judicial appointments is the most visible element of the much deeper and broader struggle for the very soul of America.

Tom Daschle represents a segment of the population that has a vision of America's future that is dramatically different from the vision advanced by the Bush administration. Daschle – the temporary leader of the deposed Democratic Party – is struggling mightily to regain the dominance enjoyed during the Clinton/Gore era. Bush – the temporary leader of the now-dominant Republican Party – is struggling just as hard to retain his party's dominance, at least through another four-year term. America's future is bigger, and more important, than any individual. But it is through individuals, and their political parties, that the very soul of our nation is revealed.

There is no doubt that our nation was founded upon the principles of freedom set forth in our founding documents. There is no doubt that for the first century, those principles guided our nation's policies. There is no doubt that during the 20th century, those principles became fuzzy and began to erode, as new principles of self-governance emerged.

The struggle for America's soul is not simply between the Democrats and Republicans. It goes much deeper. At the very core of the conflict, the struggle is between capitalism and collectivism. There are endless shades of variation between these two extremes, but at the core, the conflict is between capitalism and collectivism.

It is a short distance between speeches delivered by Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and some of the Democratic presidential candidates to the policies advanced by the Progressive Caucus or the Democratic Socialists of America or, for that matter, the World Socialist Web Site or the International Socialist Organization. All these policies are consolidated in Agenda 21 and in the Commission on Global Government's report, "Our Global Neighborhood."

Democrats do not call themselves socialists, and, indeed, some are not. Even a casual reading, however, of the policies and proposals advanced by the socialists of the world, reveals that the policies advanced by the Democrats are hand-in-glove with the socialists. Consider Hillary's universal health-care fiasco, Kennedy's cradle-to-grave, state-run education proposals, Gephardt's government-mandated health-care-for-tax-break proposal, and all the government-controlled land-use policies. The more one reads the global socialist agenda, the easier it is to see how completely this philosophy has permeated the Democratic Party in the United States.

Many people who feel pangs of social responsibility, or a genuine desire to "protect" the environment, tend to identify with the rhetoric of the Democratic Party, without really considering all the consequences that accompany government control. When government does control completely – which is the goal of socialism – it's too late for people to change their minds.

Were it not for the wisdom of our founders, who fashioned the Electoral College, Bush would not be in the White House. Hillary Clinton was one of the first to call for the abolition of the Electoral College, which would transform America into a democracy instead of the republic which our founders constructed.

Socialists love to use the word "democracy" to describe their system of governance, because it suggests that the people have a say in policy development. Truth is, however, that in a socialist democracy, the only people who have a say in policy development are those people that the socialist leaders choose to have a say.

So it is with the "collaborative decision process," instituted by Clinton's President's Council on Sustainable Development and still used throughout government agencies to "build consensus" among pre-selected people to endorse pre-determined policy goals.

Americans who don't want this nation to fall victim to socialist policies and procedures are typically referred to as right-wing extremists, greedy capitalists, anti-environmental polluters and most recently, as war-mongers. These are the people who are constantly the targets of the Democrats' verbal assaults. These are the folks who rejected Al Gore and unseated Dick Gephardt and Tom Daschle from their congressional majority leadership positions.

Americans who don't want this nation to fall victim to socialist policies and procedures are rising, organizing, strategizing and mobilizing to win the struggle for America's soul.

This essay needs to be read and reread, over and over, until the mind grasps the peril which the despotic democrat party represents. The manipulative head games of the Santorum and Bennett faux outrgaes should be picked apart until the people can recognize one of these specious games as it surfaces and is pushed forward by the democrats' complicit media. The democrats seek to divide this nation along constituency lines, fostering envy, distrust, and outright hatred. The more they can accomplish that among the people, the greater will be the impact of their constituency voting blocks made up of blind partisans who vote on emotion and never on reality, on reasoned debate. Such an approach to politics may have been obscene but acceptable in the past. At present, with the nation literally fighting a war against enemies wanting to end our nation, such divisive politics destroys our collective resolve to fight, thus it endangers us all the more. Democrats would welcome another deadly terroorist attack on American civilians, would welcome (and in fact are actively promoting) economic disaster ... for these shocks work to magnify the democrat lying demagoguery, obfuscating the truth and promoting reaction rather than reason and resolve. Our greatest enemy of today may not in fact be al Qeada, it may be al Democratic Partie and their win by any and all destructive means.

The DEMS have to keep their plans for us SECRET so we don't catch on. The North Dakota legislature(both houses) voted out a statement to Dasshole to confirm BUSH judges immediately, since the same voters put them in office, who does he REALLY represent?

If a reader doubts what I asserted above, regarding the real danger of democrat policy and approach to winning, consider the truth that it is the democrat party who is willing to promote and defend the indefensible in order to serve a small constituency ... democrats fight tooth and nail to keep the heinous partial birth abortion slaughter method legal! Why? ... To appease a small blind partisan minority who count baby slaughter as a woman's right! A political party that will defend the indefensible (Patrick Moynihan, a past honorable Democrat, called the procedure infanticide!) in order to maintain a political controversy for manipulating the public psyche is a political party capable of any evil that could promote their empowerment. If a political party will gladly sacrfice the lives of countless innocent babies waiting to be born, such a party will gladly work by stealth means to bring about economic disaster or obstruct an administration working to prevent a terrorist catastophe. The democrat party of current manifestation is more dangerous than al Qaeda, for it works to destroy our national resolve and our nation unity in time of greatest peril from abroad.

We have more than 70,000 members, but we have a whole lot of readers who are not members and don't post, they just read here for the perspective value. When 50% of voters still vote for the evil bastards, they're not seeing the treachery of democrats.

I figured out recently that "good" is targeted now by laws to prevent it from emerging in our society.

For instance. If a queer shows up to rent your house, and you hate sexual deviance and so refuse to rent, he(?) can "win" in court now against you. This raises two questions: 1) who really "owns" your house, and 2) Why can't you control your own property in a way that reflects your values?

That is an example fo the law being used to assure that good behavior is "illegal".

Just to set the record straight, Daschle is from S. Dak., not North. However, we (ND) also have two democrats in the Senate and the ND Senate and House also let it be known they wanted our two senators to quit this nonsense.

Well, for one thing Tom Daschle doesn't represent a single one of the North Dakota legislators. Daschle is from South Dakota.

I was wondering if anyone would catch my mistake, thanks for the correction, I feel a little like the NY Times should feel.

Excellent post MHG. The democrats seek to divide this nation along constituency lines, fostering envy, distrust, and outright hatred. The more they can accomplish that among the people, the greater will be the impact of their constituency voting blocks made up of blind partisans who vote on emotion and never on reality, on reasoned debate.

All my relatives are Democrats, and I've been seeing what you rightly point out for years. It sincerely mystifies me how my family, not all of whom lack sufficient grey matter, cannot see the danger inherent in their party's socialist bent. They are not apathetic or somnambulent, but they buy hook line and sinker every emotional appeal and lie their party perpetrates. Meanwhile, there is this visceral hatred under the surface for Republicans. I have tried everything I know to no avail.

I think however I have noticed a change recently, and from what I can tell (my relationship with my family is very strained, we quit really talking years ago), 9-11 and the Iraq war have served to shed a lot of light on who Democrats really are. My mother has already grudgingly admitted that she really thinks George Bush is a "good man". My brother has made some admiring statements about Dennis Miller lately, so maybe the worm is turning now.

European socialist parties identify themselves as such, while the American socialists have to cloak their real beliefs in rhetoric, lies, and subterfuge. Interesting isn't it?

On the House floor, Steny Hoyer asked Tom DeLay when the partial-birth abortion bill was coming up.

DeLay said they had so much to do, it would be after the Labor Day recess.

Thank you for telling me that! Tom will hear from me Monday morning, I assure you. It is estimated that 10,000 partial birth murders are done each year. At 200 'working days', that makes50 partial birth killings per working day ... count the days to the labor day resumption and see how many deaths this foot dragging is gonna be complicit with! I'll be damned if that's why I voted for the Pubby worms! Yeah, Tom will hear from me on Monday morning.
