When I was in jr high and high school late 60's early 70's we would bring guns to school. Most of the time on fridays on the bus to go to a buddys house for a weekend of hunting.

Most every one I knew had guns availible 24/7. No one even thought about useing them to shoot up the school. Respect for them was taught and required.

LESS GUNS MORE CRIME.

Eastman gun show, North Atlanta trade Center next weekend.
800 tables. One of the largest in the state.

Come on down!

At our high school the ROTC had real rifles for practice, although they had to go to A&M and use the Corp's range. They often brought them to school and carpooled to campus.

And almost every truck had a gun rack across the back, complete with gun. It was nothing to see friends talking about a new purchase downtown on Sat. morning.

When I was in jr high and high school late 60's early 70'...

I was looking through one of my old high school yearbooks from the early sixties recently. It has pictures of people with guns at the school all through it. Boys with guns, Girls with guns, teachers with guns, a State patolman with a drawn revolver in front of a class teaching a gun saftey course. Many of us carried rifles and shotguns to school to go hunting with on the way home. We were supposed to leave them in our lockers, but no one paid much mind if we carried a new rifle or shotgun to a class to show it off. Our school had both a boys and girls rifle team and owned target rifles for both teams. We engaged in inter-school rifle matches. If I remember correctly, we were supposed to be in the 9th grade before bringing our own guns to school, but I remember once that I took my fathers muzzle loading rifle to elementary school with me for some type of activity (a play or show and tell or something like that). Times have changed, I guess. That was back in a time when everyone owned a gun (usually more than one) and no one shot anyone else. I miss the old ways.

People who set out on shooting "rampages" fancy themselvesas some sort of avenging angels destroying evildoers. They don't act on these fantasies if the evildoers just might shoot back. These fantasies are less likely to even pop up in a deranged mind if he cannot be that all powerful angel because his targets may have The Power, too. For more rational rampagers, the thought that they may not get to kill more than one or two before they get shot themselves will deter.
