NEW YORK May 9

An Iraqi lawyer who helped U.S. forces rescue Pfc. Jessica Lynch is writing a book. Mohammed Odeh al-Rehaief's "Rescue in Nasiriya" will be published by HarperCollins in October.

"It's the story of an Iraqi making life and death decisions that have global impact," David Hirshey, vice president and executive editor of HarperCollins, said Friday.

The book will be co-authored by Jeff Coplon, who helped write the best seller "Return With Honor," the story of Capt. Scott O'Grady, an Air Force pilot shot down over Bosnia in 1995.

Lynch, a 20-year-old Army supply clerk from Palestine, W.Va., was captured March 23 after her 507th Maintenance Company convoy was ambushed in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah. She was rescued from a hospital in the city on April 1 after al-Rehaief mapped out her location for U.S. Marines.

Al-Rehaief, his wife and 5-year-old daughter were granted asylum in the United States last month and plan to settle in the Washington, D.C., area. He has been offered a job with the Livingston Group, a Washington lobbying firm.

Al-Rehaief was honored Thursday by the Delaware Bar Association, which gave him an award for reflecting the best quality of lawyers helping defenseless people being treated unfairly. The bar association presented him with $1,000.

It now actually comes out that the whole event was basically a load of BS. The hospital was completely unguarded!

Did the rescuers know that at the time. IMHO they prepared for the worst and accomplished their mission brilliantly. Hurrah for them!
