ish! I wondered what a brown recluse looked like, don't think we get them here in MN, but I did see a rather scary looking spider in my apt. a few weeks ago. The cat came running out of the bedroom chasing something, it was the biggest scariest looking thing I have ever seen. About the size of a quarter, dark brown, thick hairy legs but no markings on the back. Had to grab my hubby's boot to squish the sucker as he had already gone to bed. Yuck....getting creeped out all over again!

i had maybe a half dozen bites, near each other, that looked like the original post above or #71. as i said, it grossed out the pharmacists.

but they were not as bad as the pictures of the legs following. ick!

i think i either was getting bitten while hiking thru' grass, or while sleeping in bed. i always sleep with my bedroom window open at nights here in socal.

We have a similar spider problem in Idaho. It is the hobo spider that causes necrotic wounds here.

The department stores in Pocatello carry hobo spider traps. They are sticky boards in a triangular cardboard tent to prevent accidentally touching the sticky stuff.

Some insecticides are processed through the liver.

I recall a WSJ article about a guy that was on an ulcer med (Tagamet?), and sprayed his yard with diazinon. Then, through other yard
work, he came in to prolonged contact with the now-treated yard waste. The Tagamet was also processed
through the liver, and blocked the elimination of the diazinon in his system.

Can't remember the exact details, but he suffered some long term damage.

FWIW, the major irritation of my bite was an itching sensation. The itching seems to have gone away now. The swelled area also seems to have shrunken back such that the swollen area is no longer raised as high relative to the rest of the skin.

What does the center look like? Can you take a picture of it? ( I had to lay my arm down on the scanner bed, that is why my pictures did not turm out great, but I will do it tomorrow as the center of my bite has has gotten a little larger. )

About 3 1/2 years ago I was bitten repeatedly on the head by one of these critters. There were between 11 and 13 bites...I've also been bitten by a black widow spider...

Man, you must be real tasty.

We had really bad spider problems at our hanger at Ft Hood. Think I was bitten by every kind of spider that resides in Central Texas. Most were black widow bites, after the first five or six of em, I basically shrugged em off.

The one time a BR got me I went right in to get it fixed, just minutes after. Glad I did, those are some ugly pictures.

I get bite by fleas, fire ants, mosquitoes and just about everything else besides spiders. My little brother got bite by a spider one time and my mother wrapped the bite with plastic wrap. I never did figure out why she did that.
