Saw this on Fox News, and don't remember seeing a thread on it. I did a search under Logan, Boston, MP-5, and submachine, didn't find a previous posting.
I saw an Indianapolis City police officer openly carrying an AR-15 variant downtown last month. There was no convention in town, no crowd, no crime in progress... just walking around the sidewalks with his partner and his assault rifle. I couldn't see if his finger was on the trigger, but it sure was close. I don't know if I would have had the guts to yell at him if he had, but it surely would have made me emotionally-charged.
Now, since Boston's PD has an team that can carry the MP-5 (which I would sell my beloved motorcycle to own, but sadly is only available to uniformed citizens), I would venture to guess that they'll be a feature of every metropolitan force within 10 years. Police departments tend to have competition issues.
Could someone please remind us what the definition of a police state is again? If it isn't casual open carry of assault weapons by the authorities that the ordinary citizen, if found with the exact same item, would be left to rot in a federal penitentiary for holding... then it's certainly a step along the path!

Keep the bike and hit the gun show circuit.

Typical DemonRATS. They pay $2500 for a weapon that they could get anywhere else for $1100 each. Suckers!

if they are as agressive about terrorism as they are about unloading infront of terminal C, we will be forever safe.

"making the airport the first in the country to use such heavy weaponry." It ain't HEAVY....it is fast. Typical reporter who has never been to a range. Now if they were carrying the MP-10, chambered in 10mm, THAT would be heavy.

I've fired an MP-5 once. I have no problem if the cops have them...
Except for the fact that it takes a class III(Michigan doesn't allow them thanks to former AG Frank Kelley) to get them. If the cops can own them, so should private citizens.

And this would have stopped the terrorist on 9/11/01??? And how will this stop future hijackers?
Show over substance, that is all this is.

I saw an Indianapolis City police officer openly carrying an AR-15 variant downtown last month. A town nearby had an armored car employee get killed in a shootout last summer in a shopping mall parking lot. About a week later I was driving by a Wendys and a Loomis-Fargo truck was parked in their lot and a guard was standing next to it holding what looked for all the world like a CAR-15.
That might not have been what it was. I only saw one once, long ago, and it looked like a stubby M-16 to me.
Anyhow, I thought that was a strange sight especially in CA.

A specially trained state police unit will begin patrolling Logan International Airport with submachine guns next month, making the airport the first in the country to use such heavy weaponry. Since when is 9mm considered heavy weaponry?
The MP-5's have 30-round clips and a two-round burst capacity, which allows two shots to be fired automatically with one push of the trigger.
I have significant firarms experience, and I have yet to push a trigger.
The MP-5's are outfitted with a noise suppressor units so they'll create less alarm among travelers if they're used.
"It's OK, honey ... I know he is shooting bad guys, but it is quiet, so don't be alarmed."
The guns are also designed for accuracy in indoor environments.
Outdoors they are wildly inaccurate, however ...
Typical media story on firearms ... they have no clue about the mechanics involved, but don't let that stop them
Once while travelling through Frankfurt airport hand-carrying some professional video gear on a flight to Nice, I was escorted to a security room by a uniformed German police officer carrying an automatic weapon. I thought it was pretty cool. Not sure what type weapon is was, but all of the security personnel had them.

...30-round clips and a two-round burst capacity...If I'm not mistaken, they can fire a three-round burst, not two. Also, clips? How about magazine? I'm so sick of ignorant reporting.

I did a 12 mile drive the other day in western mass (small towns) and passed no less than 9 cops on patrol....budget crisis, what budget crisis??

First, they are paying double the market price.
Second, why do they need suppressed guns for shooting criminals in a public place? Don't they want the citizen bystanders to react naturally by dropping to the ground?!
Third, the MP5SD is not "heavy weaponry" by any stretch of the imagination.
Fourth, the MP5SD is designed for stardanrd (not subsonic) ammo, as its barrel has perforations that bleed off the gases to reduce muzzle velocity to subsonic. Lots more info here:
http://www.hkpro.com/mp5sd.htm Fifth, our militarized police units are the standing army our founders feared.
