State Rep. Greg Stumbo, a candidate for Kentucky attorney general, repeatedly stalled efforts by a Lexington woman to collect child support for a son they had in 1988, according to a pending lawsuit.

Stumbo -- who as attorney general would be the top child-support enforcement official in Kentucky -- said in an interview that he began paying regular child support last year for the boy, now 14, after a DNA test confirmed he was the father. He denied delaying the case.

There was a Grady Stumbo in an earlier generation of KY Democrat politicos. Could this be Grady's son or nephew?

Who is the Republican candidate for attorney general? It seems like the GOP did not field an attorney general candidate in 1999.

She said she and Stumbo dated in 1987 when she was a victim's advocate for the state attorney general's office and he was a legislator.

It seems that 'dating' has a different meaning to young women today than it did when I was young.

Apparently, so does fatherhood.

"Dating" for young women means when you make a penile committment for the short term rather than the long term. At least that's what my 'Rat relatives told me.

Let's talk about Osi Onyekwuluje instead.

He has a cook name.

A cool name. He has a COOL name.

I don't know what kind of name a cook would have, but it would probably be French.

Why is it that I can't help but snicker when I see KY and Democrat in the same line?

It could be a historic event if a Republican were to win the KY attorney general's post. In the past, the Kentuckians have depended on Democrats to protect their consumer interests. Also, there could be ticket splitting for the first time in KY politics in many years -- for the state offices. They may, for instance, elevate Democrat Att. Gen. Chandler to the governorship but replace Chandler with a Republican. I don't say that either scenario would happen, but usually the KY people go Democrat for ALL the statewide offices (excluding U.S. senators, which are no longer considered "state" offices per se).

Mr. Stumbo, according to the first listing from a Google search for "Greg Stumbo", is a 'rat.

But I think that was obvious from the story, wasn't it?

Just don't ask me to spell that "cook" (sic) name. In any event, with the amount of money he's raised, it isn't likely he'll be winning that office. Don't you just love the support our party gives to intriguing candidates like this ? :-(

Dr. Grady Stumbo is a trustee of the University of Kentucky. He is a physician from Hindman and a distant cousin of State Rep. Greg Stumbo. Grady Stumbo is also the campaign chairman of Democrat gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Lunsford, usually considered the underdog in the May 20 primary to Attorney General Ben Chandler. Greg Stumbo is seeking the Democrat nod to succeed Attorney General Chandler. Perhaps the Stumbos come from the old Combs wing of the KY "democracy" instead of the "Happy" Chandler camp.

In any event, with the amount of money he's raised, it isn't likely he'll be winning that office.

"Seven candidates for state auditor have raised more than $300,000 and spent about $120,000 so far. Most of it -- $216,000 -- was raised by Democrat Crit Luallen, a former top aide to Gov. Paul Patton.

On the Republican side, Osi Onyekwuluje of Bowling Green reported raising $41,000 and spending about $33,000. "

It appears Osi is the leading fundraiser on the Republican side, or was as of April 24th, according to that article. However, that doesn't seem to mesh with what the Kentucky election site says. They have Basha Cannon Roberts at 30k total as of May 5th (10k from herself), and Osi at 10k total as of early April. Do you have any more info?

Those figures are about the same as I saw. I think most pundits agree it's Ms. Luallen's race to lose.
