The eyes of the nation and the world will be on Buffalo tomorrow, when the confessed killer of Dr. Barnett Slepian is expected to make a statement.
It's the most high profile case in recent memory in Erie County. Security will be tight for James Kopp's sentencing tomorrow, but Sheriff Patrick Gallivan expects no problems:
"There's no threats. There's no real extra concern that there will be a problem, but we're not meeting our obligation if we don't take every precaution," Gallivan said.
It took four and a half years to get to this point, and there have been several twists and turns. Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark wouldn't change a thing - as long as James Kopp goes to prison.
"In retrospect, given the result that occurred
I'd do it 100 times again," Clark said.
Clark is not sure if Barnet Slepian's widow will address the court tomorrow, but Lynne Slepian made her feelings known to the judge.
"I know that she has provided the court with a letter, a very moving letter, as to the impact that this has had on her and her family."
James Kopp has a smile on his face each time he's led into court and he continues to smile inside the courtroom. Frank Clark thinks nothing of it
"Absolutely nothing. Because after the sentence is imposed, the smile's going to be on this face," Clark said.
James Kopp is due in Erie County Court at 9:30 tomorrow morning.
Which end of the buffalo?
