A prominent national Islamic Civil Rights Advocacy Group called today on the Bush Administration to remove an Amercian official supervising the hiring of translators in Iraq because of offensive Anti-Arab remarks he made to an Independent Televison News Reporter.
The Washington based Council on Islamic Relations quoted an ITN report broacast yesterday on the PBS Newshour with Jim Lehrer in which a hiring administrator, after slamming the door in the face of an Iraqi applicant said, 'Guiding these local Arabs is like herding cats..herding cats into closets..except the cats don't complain as much.'
'If our goal is to win the hearts and minds of the Iraq people and present a positive image of America, this is the wrong person for the job.' He should be removed and replaced with someone who doesn't harbor biogeted views toward the [Muslim] population, said CAIR Executive Nihad Awad.
'Amercians sent to work in Iraq should be sensitive to the plight of a traumatized population and aware of the religion and culture of the community they are serving,' Awad added.
CAIR is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group. It is headquartered in Washington D.C. and has 16 regional offices nationwide and in Canada.

From
http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/001/287hccjs.asp NIHAD AWAD, for example. A Palestinian-American, Awad has repeatedly embraced Hamas, the Saudi-funded, Palestinian terrorist organization that has claimed responsibility for many of the recent bombings in Israel. In a 1994 appearance at Barry University in Florida, Awad declared: "I am in support of the Hamas movement." That same year, when Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes" asked Awad if he supports the "military undertakings of Hamas," Awad told him, "The United Nations Charter grants people who are under occupation to defend themselves against illegal occupation." Former FBI counterterrorism chief Oliver "Buck" Revell has called Awad's former employer, the Islamic Association For Palestine, "a front organization for Hamas that engages in propaganda for Islamic militants." And just five days before the September 11 attacks, when the FBI shut down Texas-based computer firm InfoCom citing its terrorist ties, Awad blamed the raid on the Bush administration's efforts to appease "Israel, a racist country and state."

I don't know if "cat" is particularly offensive in the Muslim world. But what he said didn't seem to be terrible in my mind.
Cats aren't easily hearded, they tend to go sideways. So the Iraqi's aren't being particularly cooperative and complain a lot. Big deal.

'Guiding these local Arabs is like herding cats..herding cats into closets..except the cats don't complain as much.' Maybe I'm missing something but exactly what about this statement is "racist"!? I mean its not exactly a compliment, but "racist" seems a bit of a stretch.

Hodan Hussam? He's the CAIR Civil Rights Coordinator -- as such, his job is to extract racist overtones out of innocuous statements, while defending the rights of upstanding citizens such as Sami Al Arian. He CAIRs deeply.

I would think 30 years of Saddam would have been trauma enough..

'Guiding these local Arabs is like herding cats..herding cats into closets..except the cats don't complain as much.'Hmmm. Un PC. Who do we choose?
----------------------
It seems to me a certainty that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of the Arab women are the outstanding causes for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly as he was around the year 700, while we have been developing
It took me a long time to realize just how much a student of medieval history could gain from observing the Arab
A bunch from Ike's staff tried to put me on the spot for not disarming the French in Africa. I assumed the offensive, showing them that to disarm the French or to discredit them meant an Arab War which would demobilize sixty thousand American soldiers as a starter. All of them agreed with me at last.

CAIR just keeps losing ground. They keep this up and soon nobody will listen to them about anything. Did they really think we would allow anti-Americans into Iraq to run something that important?

herding cats..herding cats into closets.. I'll bet this guy used to work for EDS.
