It looks like Syria is turning into another Pakistan. They are not exactly our closest friends or allies, but they are able to recognize a winning hand when they see it.

Well, it's better to be feared than to be walked over, at least.
But for the Middle-East, their leaders suddenly seem to fear a couple of things now, such as our military, as well as being ridiculed by their own populations for being the new "Baghdad Bobs" if they spout too much "death to America" nonsense.
I also doubt that former Soviet military advisors are in great demand over there right now, either...
