Police Raid 'Head Shop' Thanks To New Law Prosecutor Says He Will Run Shops Out Of County
POSTED: 10:29 p.m. CDT May 7, 2003 UPDATED: 10:52 p.m. CDT May 7, 2003
BELTON, Mo. -- Cass County prosecutor Chris Koster is cracking down on so-called "head shops" in his jurisdiction thanks to a new provision in a state law.
Head shops are stores that sell types of pipes often used to smoke drugs, KMBC's Martin Augustine reported. Until recently, head shop owners had legal protection because it was assumed that tobacco could also be smoked in those pipes.
But now, a new provision in a Missouri law outlaws selling materials if there are "circumstances where one reasonably should know" that the item will be used to "inject, ingest or inhale" controlled substances.
"We're going to use the new twist in this law to close down every one of these (shops) that open up in Cass County, and absolutely run them out of town," Koster said.
Officials are afraid the teenagers, attracted by trendy clothes also sold at head shops, will be drawn into drug culture, Augustine said.
Police raided one store in Belton Wednesday, citing the aforementioned law. Officers arrested the store owner, Kevin Van Trump, and his wife.
Officers pulled about 25 boxes full of pipes out of the Belton store.
Breaking the law is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

their consumption is in no way inherently immoral How is the consumption of, say, marijuana inherently immoral in a way that the consumption of alcohol is not?
Muslims and some Baptists would indeed say that alcohol consumption is "immoral", and indeed in some of the more benighted parts of America there are "dry counties" for this reason.
What I find odd is that someone can claim that using a product in its natural form is "immoral".

Oh and you are VERY likely to find many "roachclips" alligator clips with burnt ends in my house. The fact that I'm an electrical engineer who builds things in my home lab doesn't have anything to do with them ... I'm sure Ms. frigging Cleo

"The Head Shop owners need to be given a bar of soap and sprayed down with a fire hose."
"Then forced to change diapers of drug addled people, and wipe their drool."
You have issues, evidently.
So, didja get caught shop-lifting a porno comic by some sleazeball shopkeeper? Ha ha!
In any event, once your Party is in full control, these filthy little smut and dope peddlers can be crushed like the vermin they are! Ein volk! Ein Reich!...etc.

Can you really imagine this being used for smoking tobacco? Nevertheless, it is by some people.
I'm not condoning the use of it for purposes other than smoking tobacco but it may have legal uses also.

Pot smoking of course lacks victims, unless you count the plant that gets picked. >:)

Seriously, we all have to make judgments in the world, and we all impose our values upon each other. It doesn't take a Great Karnak to understand intent, or sit on a jury, or try a case, or make a judgment This law addresses indent before a crime is committed. That my friend is mindreading.

So pornography is moral? Prostitution is moral? All gambling is moral? Suicide certainly would be moral. Polygamy, sodomy, gay marriage, and of course, drugs.
Wow, what an ugly world you live in. Count me out.

I work with FIMO clay, cheap, bakes hard in the oven, and used by dopers the world over for making cool things. Although I usually don't make pipes with it :)
