Whenever San Jose soccer star Brandi Chastain was going through tough times in life, a knee injury or some other setback, her mother always was there to provide guidance.

She has reason to think about those words now. Her challenge is dealing with the unexpected deaths of her mother and father in just a seven-month period.

Parents.

Let me say that again with the correct emphasis... Parents with an 's'. And if you notice, one is a female, and the other is a male.

Sometimes God takes the good people young. Brandi is very fortunate. It's far better to have two wonderful parents who die relatively young than to grow up in a broken family or with selfish and difficult parents who live on to a ripe old age.

At least that's my opinion.

How very sad. Sudden death is so difficult.......

Her mom was right, the challenges go to those with strength but surely this is a lot to bear. Prayers for her.

Good article.
I, too, lost both of my parents within 6 months of each other.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Ignatz - I can't even imagine what that must be like. I really dread the day I have to face this. I know its coming. I try very hard to make the most of my time with both of my parents now....

Great story - and I totally agree with Frohickey's assessment of how important it is for parents to be totally involved - and with unconditional love - in their childrens' lives. There is NOTHING more important that I do than to be my kids' mom. Everything I do in life revolves around them.
