Drawing such a cool reception that he had to ask the crowd for applause, Gov. Gray Davis on Wednesday told hundreds of California business leaders he understands the strains they face during the state's fiscal crisis.
"You are the golden goose, and if you don't succeed we can't succeed," Davis told executives at the 77th annual Sacramento Host Committee Breakfast at the Sacramento Convention Center.

Symptomatic of the electorate response in recent elections!

Yeah, that's what I want to hear from a state governor. 'You're my meal ticket.'

Perhaps these businessmen are at least somewhat aware of what you posted.
Met again with silence, he said, "If you want to applaud for that, you may." The audience responded with a weak round of clapping.
If there is some video, or even audio, I want this on some comercial later this year. I want this quote to be used when Gray has to run for "reelection" this fall after we get the recall on the ballot.

what a bunch of crap! the only reason they are even talking about workmen's compensation reform is because the cities are finally frightened about the increase!

After the speech, the governor told reporters, "My job is not to make a given community happy but to do what's right for this state."...unless it gets me more votes.
